Some previews of space panoramas

Here is a preview of DXT textures made by Fridger Schrempp (t00fri@mail.desy.de). These textures will only work in a graphic card supporting their special compression (mainly relatively current GeForce cards and possibly some Radeons). While we find an appropiate place for them... enjoy these snapshots! (Descriptions by the author. All images have 1280x960 size, so expect slow downloads.)

[These Earth Images Above Show] my custom "low-res" 4k x 2k hardware compressed textures that have a specular alpha channel to display the sun reflections (only) in the oceans. The clouds are also fairly hires (2k).

My corresponding hi-res 8k x 4k textures. Evening over the great lakes, street lights (earthnight8k.dds) being lit there...

Night over Europe with huge number of lights visible (earthnight 8k x 4k).

Closeup over Tibet/Himalaya North India, evening with lights showing up in northern India.

This is a view of my 8k moon.dds that I assembled from the three 22K r,g,b "monster" files on the NASA site and scaled them down with cubic interpolation to 8k each.

Mars   Sorry, all the picturs from this section are gone, I will try to get back as meny as I can

Different views of my 8k mars.dds that I further enhanced with unsharp masking filtering. They are quite amazing. I also added my version of slowly moving Mars clouds.
